Abstract. The distinguished Russian historian, Professor R.G. Skrynnikov (1931–2009), successfully combined the talents of a scholar with the gifts of a teacher and mentor. Having authored dozens of books, he laid the foundation for a school of thought whose traditions his students pass on to future generations of researchers. The fundamental principle of his school of thought is meticulous attention to sources and historical facts. His extensive scholarly legacy has become firmly established in Russian historiography and has been continued in the works of his students.
