Abstract. The article deals with a historical text as a way of transformation of the data of historical sources into the scientific knowledge about the past. The author gives the characteristic of historical narrative which allows differentiating it from an artistic narrative. The author shows the specific character of the use of development principles, systematism and determinism in historical narrative.
