Abstract. The article is devoted to Joseph Neef’s educational activities which made a successful attempt to introduce the progressive achievements of J.G. Pestalozzi’s theory and practice to the United States’ public education system in the early nineteenth century. This article explores the contribution to the transformation of the doctrine of natural education by the American educator, identified the main factors of his activities and problems encountered in the sequential implementation of Pestalozzi’s ideas in the socio-cultural reality of the New World.
