Abstract. The article is devoted to the under-investigated problem of the initiation and the formation of customs procedures in Tsaritsin. The author denies the formerly acknowledged date of the establishment of customs procedures which is accepted earlier in the regional literature,i.e. in 1691. The complex study of archival documents has shown that the customs procedures in Tsaritsyn started its functioning probably from the moment when the new fortress was built on the right bank of the Volga (1615).

Key words: customs procedures, the history of Russia, Tsaritsin, XVII century, customs duty, Lower Volga region, trade, musketeers (streltsy) service.
