Abstract. The article analyzes the literature on periodization Early Sarmatian culture. Showing contentious issues related to the Sarmatian Archaeology, terminology and periodization Early Sarmatian culture. Highlighted the status of monuments II–I century. BC in the Lower Volga.

Key words: Early Sarmatian, periodization, Prokhorovka culture, archeology, the Lower Volga region, chronology.
