Abstract. The paper presents information on the the 4th International Academic Conference held on October 20-21, 2017 in Volgograd “Military history of Russia: problems, searches, solutions”, devoted to the 75th Anniversary of the Victory in the Battle of Stalingrad. The conference was held at the Volgograd State University. Organizers of the conference: Volgograd State University, Center of the Collective Use “Military History of Russia”, Center for studying of the Battle of Stalingrad, State Historical and Memorial Museum- Reserve “Battle of Stalingrad”, State Archive of the Volgograd Region, Volgograd Regional Office of the Academy of Military Sciences.
Structurally the conference was substantial and representative: over 150 representatives of the Russian Academy of Sciences, higher education institutions, archives, museums and libraries from 28 cities of Russia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Uzbekistan and Ukraine took part in the conference. The participants included 23 doctors of sciences and 63 candidates of sciences. Along with professors and associate professors the young researchers also took part in the work of the conference: assistants, postgraduate students, master students and undergraduates.
The work of a plenary session and 10 sections is analyzed in the article. The sections “The Battle of Stalingrad: History and Present” and “The Lower Volga and the Don during the Battle of Stalingrad” were the central ones. The permanent sections included the reports on military history in the ancient time and the Middle Ages, modern and contemporary times, social protection of the population in the conditions of wartime, the military-political conflicts as threat to security were presented to society and the state, the international aspects of the military conflicts, military art in the methodologies of international “wargame” research.
