Abstract. The paper is devoted to the analysis of the controversial issues of the Soviet Union participation in the post-war occupation of Japan during the period from 1945 till 1947. The author studies Soviet initiatives in the occupational bodies, and highlights the responsibility of the Soviet Union for the failure of the US peace initiative for Japan in 1947.
