Abstract. The article is devoted to the creation of the scientific archaeological school of A.S. Skripkin that was taking place during the establishment of the Volgograd State University and the formation of its scientific and educational structures. A.S. Skripkin’s students and follwers participated in the creation and development of archaeological departments within the Volgograd State University – V.M. Klepikov, A.N. Dyachenko, I.V. Sergatskov, M.A. Balabanova. This team developed the main scientific directions of the archaeological school.
Research interests of the founder of the school of archaeology of the Volgograd state university A.S. Skripkin pertain to the ethnic and political history of the Sarmatians of the Eurasian steppe, to determining the causes and mechanisms of their migrations. The marked themes and issues became the research object for the majority of his disciples and followers.
The active publishing activity is associated with the name of A.S. Skripkin. He has authored over 300 scientific publications, including 11 monographs and 8 textbooks. Under his editorship 14 issues of “Lower Volga archaeological bulletin” (Nizhnevolzhskiy arkheologicheskiy vestnik) were published as well as 3 issues of “Materials on Archeology of Volga-Don Steppes”, widely known in the scientific community, an several monographs on various aspects of Eurasian archaeology. In these works, the efforts of A.S. Skripkin, his colleagues and students are combined.
