Abstract. The research strategies of the studying of the phenomenon of nationalism in the national and foreign political science are analyzed. The opportunities of the application of the premordialist and constructivist approaches to the studying of modern nations and nationalism are being substantiated by the author. The author undertakes an attempt of the methodological substantiation of using the category of «nationalism» and explains the essence of the nationalistic movements in a modern Russia and the directions of the transformation.
