Abstract. The present work tries to analyze basic approaches to the Georgian issue inside political and expert circles close to the present U.S. administration. Besides, the dynamics of changing content of the discussions as well as key recommendations and obstacles to their implementation are reviewed. Particularly, the concept of «strategic patience» advocated by Washington as a means to «re-integrateand engage» Abkhazia and South Ossetia back into Georgia is scrutinized.
