Abstract. This article analyzes the peculiarities of the Old Russian sectarianism in the Penza province. There are examined the economic and social factors contributing to the spread of sects, as well as measures against dissenters taken by the Government and local authorities for admonishing dissenters and bringing them back to Orthodoxy, along with repressive measures being applied too.
Key words: dissenters, Molokans, Dukhobors, Judaizers, Khlysts, spiritual admonition, official church.
