Abstract. The article considers the importance of Old Believers Church in the history of the Lower Volga region in 18th century. The author states that since this period exactly the tendency of activization of Old Believers Church in the region began. This statement is proved with the information about geographical localization of Old Believers and the increasing dynamics of their number.

Key words: Old Believers Church, colonization, Irgizsky monasteries, hermitages of Old Believers, the Don Cossacks.
