Abstract. Introduction. The article addresses the issues of care and support for families of reservists and servicemen called up to combat units by parish councils, using the Astrakhan and Saratov dioceses as examples. parish charity work to help the wives, children, and elderly parents of front-line soldiers is presented in a multifaceted way, especially during the first two years of the war, which were characterized by the most active work of parish boards of trustees. Methods and materials. The research is based on traditional methods: historical-genetic, historicalsystemic, documentary analysis, and the principles of historicism and objectivity. Materials from wartime periodicals served as the basis for the work. Analysis. The main directions and forms of support for fellow citizens by parish boards of trustees have been identified, ranging from systematic coin donations to the establishment of nurseries and rural patronages for soldiers’ children. The authors have traced and reflected the growth in the number of parish boards of trustees and the number of families receiving monetary payments and food rations and have presented information on monetary contributions made by the boards themselves to local charity organizations. Results. Overall, the significant contribution of the Russian Orthodox Church as an active organizer of social charity during wartime is shown, providing assistance to the army, wounded soldiers, and families of front-line soldiers with the direct participation of parish boards of trustees.
