Abstract. In the article the authors analyze the development and the current status of French in Lebanon. First of all they investigate the status of the language in Lebanon, its usage by different confessional communities and social groups, the influence of French policy and Franco-Lebanon relations on the language. Special attention is given to the daily usage of the language in such spheres as mass media and economics.

Key words: France, Lebanon, language status, socio-economic and political changes, relations between countries, socio-cultural and economic spheres, mass media, the spread of English, French policy.
