Abstract. Introduction. After the end of the Great Patriotic War, the number of prisoners of war in Stalingrad doubled, and new NKVD camps for industrial purposes were created, including Krasnooktyabrsky No. 362.

Methods and materials. Historical facts are investigated on the basis of the principles of historicism and objectivity. The article uses problem-chronological and comparative-historical methods. The article is based on documents of the NKVD-Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR, the Main Directorate for Prisoners of War and Internees of the NKVD-Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR, and institutions for prisoners of war and internees of the Stalingrad region.

Analysis. Prisoners of war at Camp No. 362 were used in the work of the main construction trusts restoring industrial enterprises and housing facilities in the central and northern parts of Stalingrad. The number of the camp’s contingent for 1945–1947 increased from 7,943 people to 13,715 people, and the share of workers in production increased.

Results. For 1945–1949, enterprises transferred more than 125 million rubles to the camp for the work of prisoners of war. The total cost of the work performed by the contingent of Camp No. 362 amounted to about 400 million rubles. This allowed approximately 4.5% to reimburse the cost of losses incurred by the city during the war years.

Key words: prisoners of war, NKVD-Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR Camp no. 362, placement of prisoners of war, restoration of Stalingrad, contribution of prisoners of war to the restoration of the city.
