Abstract. Educational material is an important historiographic source which illustrates how historians’ views and estimates changed over the times (in the Soviet and post-Soviet periods, for instance). The author of the article tries to show how the historiography on the problem of Alexander’s foreign policy demonstrates the change of political and theoretical marks of a society.

Key words: historiography, educational literature, Soviet, post-Soviet periods, Alexander I, Napoleon, foreign policy.
